At 1:43pm on September 2 our new baby girl was born weighing 8 lbs 6 oz and was 20 inches long. After her water breaking at about5:30pm Tuesday evening Brandy did not show signs of active labor all night, she was dilated to a 1cm for hours. We were at first told the doctor wanted her to rest and at 6:30am she would be induced. As a result of that statement they gave her some sleeping medication. At about 12 am they woke her up and said the doctor changed his mined and they were to go ahead an induce her. She was so groggy from the medication we thought that sounded like a strange thing to do. We asked that she could try to have the baby naturally with out the aid of medication. He agreed and we spent 4 hours of walking after that. In all that 4 hours of walking the most she could get dilated to was a 4cm. So we agreed to induce and this was about 4am. I got about 1 hour of sleep at this point (5 mins here, 5 mins there, 15 mins here, and there and so on) which made for a total of 1.5 hrs of sleep for the night.
She was allowed to sleep for a bit and was checked regularly. She began to be unable to handle the contraction pains and we began to discuss the Epidural. At about 6am we decided to accept the Epidural and this began the rapid increase of Pitocin (the hormone used to induce) to bring her to a normal contraction rate.
At about 10:30am she was at a full dialation. Now began the real labor. For 2.5hrs she pushed with all her might. Though she was feeling no pain, the work was extreemly hard. She could not tell when to push because the contractions could not be felt. So we would tell her when the monitor said she was having a contraction and she would try to push. Again, because of the epidural, she could not feel what she was pushing so it became an interesting feat to tell her how to push when she didnt know how to use the right muscles.
Below are a few pictures minutes after labor. These picts have been okayed through Brandy by the way.
Our little girl is doing great and she is healthy and happy. Below is a Short little video taken with my picture camera. Hope you enjoy.
