Its been a rush around here. Working a part-time job, looking for another, and trying to do work around the farm. With the Baby on the way the financial responsibility returned to me and the farm income is too little for the Debt we have. If I had only learned before I got into Debt.
This is a scenario I have seen coming for a long time and I have blogged about the necessity of getting out of debt to keep a person from being a slave. But once your in debt that part of the Beast keeps you there as long as he can. I dont know how many times I felt the weight of this recession/depression long before it came. Not the symptoms of the issue but rather the cause. Meaning it wasn’t the housing bubble that caused the problems, it wasn’t mal-investments (though they are a consequence), it was the Federal Reserve in coordination with the government (who listen to Keynesian Economists) for destroying the free market which is self regulating. So as a result we are repeating the actions of the Great Depression.
But I want to begin to stop thinking about this because with this beast, there is nothing we can do. The system is corrupt and any efforts or attempts to control it are frivolous. But what we can do is live sustainably to the best we can. We can become self-sustainable each to his or her own degree of choosing. We can return to free market principles and begin thinking that “I am responsible for myself and not Government” rather than think what can I get without any regard to who’s paying for it. The point is, dont expect things to be the same as they have always been. Be prepared to be smart with finances or do without.
Brandy and I made a decision to this affect, in our medical bills for the the baby. She has a 80/20 insurance policy, meaning they pay 80% and we pay 20%. The lady in the billing department tried her hardest to get us to accept the Federal Aid to pay the rest of the bill, but it was pointless. I feel that it is a matter of principle, it is not right nor is it a responsible decision to expect my fellow Americans to pay for our decision to have a child.
Now I know this decision does not help us any and to many of the Government Educated, it seems like a bad decision. But think of government as your mom, if your mom took from your $10 allowance $9 of your hard earned money and chose to throw $8 into the wood stove to burn for heat and $1 she gave to your sister how would you feel being left with $1? I mean after all you need heat who cares if the use of the paper money is not the wisest use its not like you yourself could have bought fuel to cut firewood that would have lasted longer and as for your sister she needed that money because she decided to spend what she earned on whatever it was she wanted. Besides you have a $1 left be happy with that! This would be about the equivalent of our Government and its dealings with us.
The point is the only way for America to return to its prosperity of old is for people to take back control of Government and return to the Golden Rule.
It seems rare these days to find anybody who makes real decisions based on principal. Especially if those decisions can make their life more difficult. It is also a shame to see so many people taking advantage of government assistance. I’m referring to people like those who get paid in cash for their labor and claim little enough so that they can get food stamps, be on welfare and receive EIC at the end of the year. Then they turn around and spend the cash they do earn on drugs and wasteful material possessions. If everybody was as honest as you, America would definitely be a better place. I must say though… if I knew my tax dollars were going to good use (like funding 20% of the cost of a pregnancy) I would be happy. The unfortunate truth is that with our current government my tax dollars will help fund abortions in other countries and of course in our own. It’s definitely upsetting to know that my tax dollars will help destroy an unwanted child but will not help an honest couple give birth to a new child.
It’s the people who take advantage of and misuse the system that makes it difficult for everyone else. I don’t think anybody in the right mind would complain about federal assistance programs if they new they were helping honest people.
Then you have people like me who will hire a tax professional to find every loophole and do whatever he can to lower my adjusted gross income so that I get the majority of my tax money back. Sure it’s legal, but it could definitely be looked upon as taking advantage of the system. But when our tax dollars are used to fund abortion, I don’t feel so bad after all. When I see meth/ice addicts bying candy bars and pop at a convenience store with an EBT card, I don’t feel so bad after all.
But none of that matters. A decision made based on principal is never a bad one. Your refusal to accept government aid is no different than my sisters refusal for food stamps at a time when she really needed them for her family. Everything turned out fine for her family as I’m sure it will for yours. And besides, who needs government assistance when you have the God of Abraham on your side:) A little bit of faith goes a looooong way.

Oh Wow! You hit the Nail on the head! Thank you for your words. I can agree with many of the things you talk about, I myself cannot even stand to pay taxes that are wasted on systems that create more dependency. What happens is more people always gravitate to depend more and more to the point there is no one putting in to the system, only taking out. And when that system fails, People get hurt or the government bails them out and we pay for it anyway.
