The Farming Operation is a GO!

Farming, Miscellaneous Stuff

Thats right! Its a go! We have not sold our house and don’t expect to anytime soon now that winter is quickly approaching. We have also found it more beneficial, financially speaking, to stay here.

So that means we have to figure something else out. So what we have decided is to use what we have and “Just Get Started”. So starting even right now, plans are being worked up for our place, small as it may be, we are going to farm it next year. We will be going to go to one of our biggest Farmers markets in the area to sell the produce that we raise. I have discovered that I have a decent amount of room to develop a market garden that could produce quite a bit of veggies.

So with out further a do, Brandy and I will launch Myerstown Family Farm here at our current residence in Oldfield Missouri. We will do what we can on a small scale to learn Organic growing methods, develop relationships and contacts for when we sell this 3.5 acres and buy 40 or more.

Below is a banner that will cover the table at the Market.

We have been planning the layout and we figure we will have just over an Acre of plantable ground.

At Myerstown Family Farm our vision consists of developing a family lifestyle conductive to farming. We aim to provide products free of genetic modifications (GMO’s), hormones, pesticides, and to provide goods from livestock that have been properly cared for to give the most nutrient value to the product as possible.

Our Mission is to develop a self sustaining crop/livestock farm that will produce the necessary nutrients for maintaining the balance of the farm’s chosen crop/livestock production with no external inputs. This method yields a better quality of product, better selection, and an assurance of safety due to no chemical pesticide or chemical fertilizer applications, no genetically modified crops, and healthy livestock.

Our Mission and Vision statements include Livestock as a part of our production but for the first 3 years we will not have Livestock other than Rabbits and Chickens.

For those who are interested in the Blacksmithing part of Oldtime Smith, I have hope, I will be building an outbuilding to house my forge, anvil and tools so that I can begin posting things to that effect…so keep checking back.
