There has been an uncanny amount of things going on around our place. With the increasing interest in Old-Time music, I have begun playing
much more. A week ago we had our annual “Myerstown Old-Time Music and Potluck” event here on the farm which brought a group interested in Old-time music, Blacksmithing, and Farming. The event allowed individuals not not just be a spectator but also to get involved and make something. Whether it was music, Iron trinkets, or good conversation, people had the opportunity to make it a day of learning and enjoyment.
Myerstown Family Farm
has neglected posting to this site only because the time available online is limited these days. While I (Jeremy) have a regular day job, internet access is not available at home (unless I get satellite) so I have very little time to post. You can see more of what goes on in my small blips on Facebook if you enjoy that. Micro-blogging makes it easy to pop in and say something on your lunch if desired.
I am playing in a band named The Emily Dowden Band as the fiddler, this band is a mix of Bluegrass and Old-Time.
I have also begun a Band, it is a strictly “Old-Time” or traditional and we have played our first event at Wooley Creek Bluegrass Festival in Cape Fare Missouri. Though it was a bluegrass festival, our “Old-Time” was met with enthusiasm as the flavor was a stark contrast to the bluegrass style. The event brought several hundred people and it provided a great Debut site for the band. My band, Southern Missouri Stringband, consists currently of 3 members. Myself on fiddle (primary) and guitar, Emily Dowden on Clawhammer banjo (primary) and Autoharp, and Drew Beisswenger on guitar. You can view the website setup for the band HERE and the band is also on Facebook.
I am also teaching Fiddle and Guitar lessons two nights a week. The students currently are Elementary aged students but I am about to start teaching High school and Middle school aged kids also within the next few weeks. This has become an increasing enjoyment for me as I love teaching.
One more thing, we are also expecting! Yep, #2 is on its way and should arrive sometime around March 3rd. As with Abby, we elected not to find out what were going to have and instead chose to be surprised. Its much more exciting!
So, through in a few Gigs to play at, some work at home, my normal Jam Session on Monday nights and there is a recipe for a busy man (and woman).
