Over the past few days we have had a lot of things happen around here. Its hard to believe that its almost June!
Barn Construction:
The hired help has been making good progress on the barn. He’s got the boards painted then he cut and painted the batons and have put up a few. He built both doors for the bottom level and got them painted and trim on. The Saturday before last (the 16th) we got the doors hung and some trim around the doors. Those doors must have weighed 250 pounds each! It was definitely a two man job. So what you see below is an up to date group of pictures of the barn.
Beekeeping:
Another thing that happened this week was that I was contacted by one Beekeeper who said he was told about a wild bee tree that a lady needed cut on her place because she was going to build a house there. Well he didn’t really want to attempt cutting a bee tree (never seen anyone do it and didn’t know anyone who had) so he asked me if I wanted it. I of course shouted “Heck Yeah!”. I had never cut down a bee tree either but I didn’t let that stop me I had a few days to think on it and I came up with a plan. How did it work? Well you’ll have to click on the link below to visit the article I wrote about it for the Homesteading Skills portion of this site.
We also had a bit of a scare this week as Brandy had to be rushed in an ambulance to the Hospital because of her heart rate being at 240bpm. We found out she had a pre-existing condition from childbirth that causes her heart to pump wrong. It doesn’t happen all of the time and in fact this was the first time she has had trouble since she was really young. Then the doctors thought she had asthma. It is not a big problem as it can be controlled mostly by eating right and not worrying about things. The Doctor said it could happen again tomorrow or 20 years from now. It is completely spur attic. Fortunately Brandy is doing well and so is the baby. The doctor said Brandy’s heart was strong and healthy so she won’t suffer from such a high heart rate.
In addition to that stress, I am having issues with my druggie neighbor. This involves fences, a tree and court. So now I am going to have to front a $1000 plus bill to have a survey done to prove my boundaries. Fun!
Well I hope you enjoy the Bee Tree article as well as this post. Thanks again for coming to this site.
