There are several websites out there about building forges. I was told by one blacksmith to make one out of a brake drum. So I began the process of building one. I have one that I have torn apart and I began to look online for diagrams on building the forge and found a site that really denounced Brake drum forges. They gave many good reasons to go out and buy a forge. They say if your not sure you want to do blacksmithing and you just want to try that you should join a school and use there equipment. First the school costs money… second the amount of time required in the school would be more significant than if you just worked at home.
I have settled on the fact of building a brake drum forge to get to know a little about blacksmithing and to do it on my own time schedule not a schools. I can acquire the necessary pieces of equipment that I need over time and I can get started now. I have a cross peen hammer… I have an anvil… now i need the forge and I can start making little items. Be sure to view my website to see all the pictures i have.
